If your answer is "yes" , then how do you reconcile that with Bible teaching - specifically (to quote but one example)Timothy 2, verses 11-12: "Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent" Granted, this is a quote from Paul, not directly from God, but, as a Christian, you must accept that everything in the Bible is there with God's blessing and approval. The Bible is supposed to be the Inspired Word of God, written and handed down to us under his guidance. There is no disclaimer ("The opinions expressed herein are those of the authors and not necessarily mine - God")in the Bible. Its quite clear from this reasoning that it is God's wish that women should not be priests. Ah yes but, I hear you say, this was written in a time when attitudes to many things, including womens’ rights, were very different. We need to modify the Bibles teachings to suit our modern views. Oh really - why? On what basis do you presume to second-guess God's intentions and re-write the inconvenient parts to suit your own requirements? The various books of the Bible have been in existence no more than about 3,000 years, a mere blink in the timescale of an entity who creates universes, galaxies and time itself. If God felt it was time for a revised version of the Bible, surely he would arrange for it to happen. Until then, those who call themselves Christians are bound to follow the teaching of the Bible as it is. To do otherwise is hypocritical and blasphemous in the extreme.

If your answer is "no" , as it really should be if you claim to be a true Christian, then please explain your position on other teachings of the Bible which you are also bound to follow, such as

The stoning to death of adulterers: "If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death." Lev 20:10-12

The execution of non-virgin brides : "But if the thing is true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the young woman, then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones..." Deut. 22:20-21

The rules of slavery , for example: "If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself. And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free, then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever". Ex 21:2-6

and "As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are round about you. You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their families that are with you, who have been born in your land; and they may be your property. You may bequeath them to your sons after you, to inherit as a possession for ever; you may make slaves of them, but over your brethren the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another, with harshness." Lev 25: 44-46

The selling of daughters into slavery : "And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do." Ex 21:7

The execution of homosexuals : "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Lev 20:13

Finally, the stoning to death of disobedient children : "If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother ... then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives.. Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall purge the evil from your midst; and all Israel shall hear, and fear". Deut 21: 18-21
